Prior to October 1, 1996, pneumonia due to Chlamydia was indexed to code 078.88, Other specified diseases due to Chlamydiae; and code 484.8, Pneumonia in other infectious diseases classified elsewhere. It was felt that the condition needed to be reclassified.
