In Coding Clinic, Fourth Quarter 1995, advice was given to assign code 646.84, Other specified complication of pregnancy, Postpartum condition or complication, and code 574.00, Calculus of gallbladder with acute cholecystitis, without mention of obstruction, for a five week postpartum patient admitted with acute cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. Since this is a postpartum condition, why can't code 674.84, Other and unspecified complications of the puerperium, not elsewhere classified, Other, Postpartum condition or complication, be assigned specifically for the puerperium period? ...
