A two-step procedure may be carried out where it is necessary to perform a ureteral catheterization to manipulate a ureteral stone back into the renal pelvis, 59.8. The second step is that of a percutaneous nephrostomy with fragmentation of stone, 55.04, which includes an insertion of a catheter down into the ureter for passage of fragmented stones.
