Renal Carcinoma with Tumor Thrombosis
An 85-year-old man presents to the hospital with a right renal mass. The physician diagnosed renal carcinoma clear cell type and renal vein tumor thrombus. The tumor extended into the surrounding fat of the right renal vein and inferior vena cava. The patient also had a history of ischemic colitis status post colostomy. A right radical nephrectomy with removal of the adrenal gland and colostomy takedown were performed. Would it be appropriate to assign an additional code for the renal vein tumor thrombosis and the removal of the thrombus? What are the appropriate diagnosis and procedure code assignments? ...
