Stereotactic Radiosurgery

In October 1995, procedure code 92.3, Stereotactic radiosurgery, was created to report radiosurgery. There are several different technologies used to perform radiosurgery, such as cobalt 60 and the linear accelerator, which were all assigned to code 92.3. Effective October 1, 1998, new codes have been created to distinguish between the technologies. Radiosurgery refers to the noninvasive, very precise delivery of radiation to a brain tumor, sparing the surrounding normal tissue.
