Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) -93.90 CPAP is a respiratory modality used in spontaneously breathing patients that allows for artificial maintenance of positive airway pressure after passive exhalation is complete. CPAP may be applied to a tight fitting face mask, endotracheal tube, or tracheal tube. It works somewhat like breathing out through a tube that is submerged in water to create a positive airway pressure to keep the alveoli open throughout expiration. 2.
