Category 997.6, Amputation stump complication, is for use to describe all complications of amputation stumps, whether due to a current amputation or to the late effect of an amputation. Examples of amputation stump complications are infections, such as cellulitis or abscess, and neuroma formations. Phantom limb pain is excluded from this category. Category 997.6 is for use for both traumatic amputations and surgical amputation. It is not for use for congenital absence of a limb. Examples: 1.
