In the March-April 1985 issue of Coding Clinic, page 12, a statement was made that the code for uvulopalatopharyngoplasty would be code 29.4, Plastic operation on pharynx, but that code 27.69, Other plastic repair of palate, and code 27.79, Other operations on uvula, could also be assigned if the surgeon deemed them necessary to completely describe the procedure. Comment: Correction/Clarification Notice: In accordance with Coding Clinic, First Quarter, 1997 and Third Quarter, 1999, codes 29.4 and 27.69 are needed to fully describe a uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP).
