Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC)

A patient sustained traumatic full-thickness skin loss to the upper and lower extremities. The patient had previously undergone several debridements and now presents for excisional debridement followed by placement of Integra skin substitute to the upper and lower extremities and vacuum assisted closure (VAC). After the excisional debridement and placement of the Integra skin graft were accomplished, the surgeon placed a VAC sponge, secured the tubing to the sponge, and connected the tubing to the canister.
