This coding clarification relates to a
Question and Answer
published in the September 2007 CPT Assistant that reads
as follows:
Question: When giving hydration prior to and/or after
chemotherapy as part of the protocol for specific chemotherapeutic
drugs or any other therapeutic medication, is it appropriate
to code the hydration? Does the time for the primary service
include start and stop for IV drug administration only, or
should the time be expanded to include the administration of
hydration therapy?
