How should the following scenario be coded? The
physician performs an E/M service for a pregnant patient. During the encounter, the patient
states that she wants to terminate the pregnancy. The physician performs the preoperative
management, then sends the patient to another physician outside of his group practice to
perform an induced abortion by dilation and curettage. Following the procedure, the patient
returns to the first physician for postoperative care.
