A 10-year-old child presented to the emergency department with their guardian with a chief complaint of abdominal pain. While performing the history and physical, physician begins to suspect the child may have been sexually abused and determines that the performance anogenital examination would be appropriate. Would the anogenital examination be included in the emergency department evaluation and management service (E/M) or should code 99170 be separately reported for the additional service?
