What is the appropriate code to report the excision of heterotopic ossification of soft tissues, left knee area? Our surgeon incises through the iliotibial band to the area of ossification for the removal. Code 27328, Excision, tumor, soft tissue of thigh or knee area, subfascial (eg, intramuscular); less than 5 cm, seems to fit this procedure; however, the code descriptor includes the term tumor. Is it appropriate to report code 27328 for this excisional procedure?
