We have heard recently that the physical therapy evaluation and re-evaluation codes 97001 and 97002 may now be reported by athletic trainers who are not state-licensed to perform physical therapy. It was our understanding that the therapist has to be state-licensed in physical therapy to use these codes. How should these codes be used?
