We are looking for clarification on how to code for the removal of an Ahmed shunt. There is a parenthetical note under code 66185, which is the code for revision of the Ahmed shunt with graft, that indicates code 67120 would be assigned for the removal of it. However, our surgeons are indicating removal of the Ahmed from the "anterior" segment of the eye. In this instance, should we report code 65920 for removal of the Ahmed shunt instead of code 67120 as indicated by the parenthetical notes?
