If a mitral valve repair procedure is performed through a right thoracotomy approach instead of the typical sternotomy approach, would it be appropriate to report code 33425, Valvuloplasty, mitral valve, with cardiopulmonary bypass? If so, would Modifier 52, Reduced Services, be appended since a sternotomy is not performed?
