A patient has an intramedullary (IM) nail placed for a femur fracture. The IM nail becomes bent, and the screws start to back out, resulting in the need for removal. Considering the new definition provided for implant and foreign body in the Surgery Guidelines for 2022, would the nail and associated screws be considered a foreign body or is it still considered an implant?
