A private obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) group provides the antenatal and delivery service and intends to provide the outpatient postpartum checks, which is part of the global obstetrics package. However, the hospital OB/GYN group (same specialty, different tax ID) provides postpartum checks while the patient remains in inpatient status prior to discharge. May the hospital OB/GYN physician report a separate E/M service for the postpartum care?
