Please provide guidance on how many units of code 77334, Treatment devices design and construction; complex (irregular blocks, special shields, compensators, wedges, molds or casts), should be billed. Our gamma knife system does not use collimator helmets; instead, it uses a single large collimator array ring and the range of collimator sizes is limited to three (4, 8, and 16 mm). In our case, a patient with an acoustic schwannoma was treated. All three collimator sizes were utilized, and seven unique plug patterns were used. Is it appropriate to count each collimator size as one device and report three units, or is each unique plug pattern reported as a unit for a total of seven units?
