When a surgeon performs manual manipulation/stressing of the joint in the operating room, may code 77071 be additionally reported? For example, when doing open surgery on the ankle, a cotton test to check for widening of the syndemosis is performed and the syndemosis is repaired (27829), can code 77071 also be reported? Or is manipulation/stressing of the joint considered inclusive in the given surgical procedures for that joint?
