Ethics: The Physician in the Middle
Ethics. This one word evokes immediate emotions from physicians. Who would do something unethical? Surely no one in my group. I don't really think anyone on my hospital's medical staff would be guilty of real unethical behavior. Two problems to this initial set of feelings are present. First, we have seen media coverage of court case results of fines and even prison sentencing to pharmaceutical houses, hospitals, and providers with the latter group including physicians, midlevels, nurses, and clerical workers.
