2025 AMA/CPT Symposium: Experts answer 5 orthopedic coding questions

During the 2025 AMA/CPT Symposium held virtually in November 2024, Dr. John Heiner M.D., an orthopedic surgeon in Madison, Wis. who is an alternate member of the AMA/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC), answered the following five musculoskeletal system coding questions during a wide-ranging Q&A session. Among the topics addressed: Where physicians should include ultrasound imaging interpretation when done with arthrocentesis, whether to separately report biceps tenodesis with a total shoulder replacement and proper coding of an IC or CMC interpositional arthroplasty.
