Anesthesia for colon cancer screens

Effective Jan. 1, 2015, Medicare’s definition of a cancer screen colonoscopy — “Screening colonoscopies, including anesthesia furnished in conjunction with the service” — ensures anesthesiologists and anesthetists will be paid for their services, even if their carriers have tough coverage policies. However, anesthesia providers will need to append a modifier to the services based on what happens during the colonoscopy.
