CCI 17.3: Bone marrow aspiration bundled into spine surgeries

In a significant departure from CPT coding rules, Version 17.3 of the National Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) (effective Oct. 1, 2011) has bundled bone marrow aspiration code 38220 as a component of many of your spinal surgeries, including fusions, fracture treatment, laminotomy and laminectomy, to name a few.
