Diagnosis coding corner: Neurogenic claudication set for a comeback in 2017

During a session of DecisionHealth’s Advanced Specialty Coding Compliance & Reimbursement Symposium, an attendee asked what happened to spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Under ICD-9-CM, it was reported with 724.03, but the condition does not have a corresponding ICD-10-CM code. The general equivalency mapping for 724.03 and 724.02 (Spinal stenosis, lumbar region without neurogenic claudication) both crosswalk to M48.06 (Spinal stenosis, lumbar region).
