Diagnosis coding corner: Perinatal conditions can be coded for life

Question: The infant patient was admitted to the NICU at birth, and was discharged to home at 1 month (5/22 to 6/22). Diagnoses were: Newborn drug withdrawal syndrome (779.5) and neonatal Candida infection (771.7). The diagnoses were made during the first 28 days of life. How long should we continue to list these diagnoses in the patient’s record?
