Diagnosis coding corner: Watch for an expansion of musculoskeletal diagnosis codes in October

One ICD-10-CM code for tenosynovitis will expand into 24 codes on Oct. 1, 2024, if the ICD-10-CM code changes in the April 10 release of the FY2025 Hospital Inpatient PPS (IPPS) proposed rule are finalized. A smaller expansion would replace two disc degeneration codes with eight new codes. The proposed update includes 252 new codes.
