Getting paid: Avoid denials with proper billing of depression screening, AWVs and E/M

Here’s an interesting bundling quirk to keep in mind when billing annual wellness visits (AWVs). If you screen the patient for depression at an initial AWV (G0438), you won’t be paid separately for the screening code, G0444 ($18.37, par, non-facility), because that service is considered a bundled component of that initial AWV service.
