Question: A patient is given a local anesthetic by a surgeon before a procedure. The patient refuses any type of additional sedation or anesthesia, but the anesthesiologist stays in the room and monitors the patient. Can monitored anesthesia care (MAC) still be billed even though no drugs were given?
