New coding guidance: CMS flags new pain procedure as facility-only in proposed rule
CMS will cover the two new basivertebral nerve destruction codes, but don’t expect to perform them in the office surgical suite. CMS did not assign non-facility practice expense relative value units (NFPE RVU) to the new service, which is represented by a primary and add-on code pair. The N/A entry for that value “indicates that this procedure is rarely or never performed in the non-facility setting,” according to the document CMS issues with the national physician fee schedule RVU file.
