Q&A: Code 25447 can describe a CMC suspension arthroplasty, AMA says
Question: Our surgeons perform a variation of carpometacarpal (CMC) suspension arthroplasty. The abductor pollicis longus to flexor carpi radialis (APL-FCR) tendons are tied together to suspend the metacarpal, but neither tendon is released or reattached. Would it be appropriate to report CPT code 26480 (Transfer or transplant of tendon, carpometacarpal area or dorsum of hand; without free graft, each tendon)? Or does a tendon need to be cut and repositioned in order to qualify as a tendon transfer?
