Question: If an intramedullary (IM) nail is removed as an integral part of another procedure and a separate incision is made to remove the distal screws that secure the nail, would it be acceptable to separately report CPT code 20680 (Removal of implant; deep [eg, buried wire, pin, screw, metal ban, nail, rod or plate]) because of the separate incision?
