Transition to ICD-10: Prepare for 7th characters and ‘x’ placeholders
For a number of ICD-10 codes that report fractures and other injuries, you’ll be required to assign a special 7th character to, for example, differentiate your provider’s initial encounter from subsequent ones, or to flag the patient’s condition as a late effect of the injury.
