Be ready for new E/M guidelines that took effect January 1. Some ED practices have expanded to include urgent care center (UCC) ownership, but coding for these services can be vastly different from coding in the ED setting. Not only will you have to understand different E/M coding guidelines, but you’ll also need to get a feel for the unique place of service codes.
