Bariatrics Overhaul Won't Affect Code Use
New language in several bariatrics surgery code descriptors won't affect how you-ll apply the codes. CPT 2008 removes the phrase "adjustable gastric band" from the descriptors for 43770-43774 (Laparoscopy, gastric restrictive procedure-) and 43848 (Revision, open, of gastric restrictive procedure for morbid obesity-). Instead, these codes use the more-inclusive (and correct) descriptive term "adjustable gastric restrictive device."
