Industry Note: OIG Continues to Turn Up the Notch on Prescription Drug Offenders

As the opioid-abuse epidemic threatens to undermine Medicare, the OIG maintains its vigilance in bringing providers to justice, who abuse the system. In a recent case, a Georgia podiatrist and her office manager were charged with the unlawful distribution of 116,500 oxycodone 30mg pills, 41,800 hydromorphone 8mg pills, and 400 fentanyl patches at clinics throughout Georgia over a nine-month period in 2014 and 2015.
