Industry Notes: OCR Proposes New Rule Addressing Discrimination and Disability
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) looks to fortify section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 with new proposals that prohibit discrimination in healthcare against people living with disabilities. The HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has issued a proposed rule, Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance, which “prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability,” HHS says in a release.
