Carrier Will Cover Home PT Test, Incident-To Heparin Drugs
For patients with mechanical heart valves on Coumadin, Medicare will cover a home test for prothrombin time, according to a February 2003 column by Kathleen Brooks, medical director for Part B Carrier Wisconsin Physicians Service. Also, three low-molecular-weight Heparin drugs (dalteparin, enoxaparin and tinzaparin) are considered by WPS to be "not usually self-administered" and therefore reimbursable incident to a physican's service.
