Roughly 83 percent of claims are now compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements, CMS officials said at the Practicing Physicians Advisory Council meeting. Out of 75,000 providers who use electronic remittance, 55,000 are physicians and suppliers. Next month, CMS will collect data on electronic claims by provider type, not just by intermediary and carrier. And on July 1, claims processing will become slower for physicians who don't submit HIPAAcompliant claims.
