Know Your LOPS Codes

 Medicare recognizes three codes for LOPS treatment: G0245 (Initial physician evaluation of a diabetic patient with LOPS), G0246 (Follow-up evaluation of patient with LOPS), and G0247 (Routine foot care of patient with LOPS). You can bill G0247 only on the same day as G0245 or G0246. Both G0245 and G0246 include patient history; physical exam including visual inspection of the forefoot, hind-foot and toe web spaces; evaluation of a protective sensation; evaluation of foot structure and biomechanics; evaluation of vascular status and skin integrity; evaluation and recommendation of footwear; and patient education.
