Payers Follow CMS' Lead In Offering Contingency Plans
With a majority of providers lagging in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, surveys show that 90 percent of private payers have followed the footsteps of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. These payers have adopted contingency plans and accept noncompliant claims. Almost 45 percent of payers plan to continue accepting noncompliant claims until CMS ends its contingency plan, according to a survey by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and Phoenix Health Systems. ...
