Serotonin release 100 IU/mL heparin.unfractionated [Units/volume] in Serum   50727-7

LOINC Code

LOINC code50727-7
nameSerotonin release 100 IU/mL heparin.unfractionated [Units/volume] in Serum
descriptionResulted as percentage of specific serotonin release: (cpm test - cpm spont)/(cpm max - cpm spont) x 100, where cpm "spont" is the spontaneous release of [3H]serotonin from cells incubated in absence of antibodies, and cpm "max" is the maximum release of [3H]serotonin from cells lysed using 1% Triton X-100.
statusACTIVE

Fully-Specified Name

componentSerotonin release 100 IU/mL heparin.unfractionated
    IU  =  Intrauterine
propertyACnc  =  Arbitrary Concentration
timePt  =  Point in time:  To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.
systemSer  =  Serum
scaleQn  =  Quantitative:  The result of the test is a numeric value that relates to a continuous numeric scale. Reported either as an integer, a ratio, a real number, or a range. The test result value may optionally contain a relational operator from the set {<=, <, >, >=}. Valid values for a quantitative test are of the form "7", "-7", "7.4", "-7.4", "7.8912", "0.125", "<10", "<10.15", ">12000", 1-10, 1:256

change reasonThis code originally used the word 'heparin' to describe the drug used in the serotonin release assay. It was determined from communication with the Blood Center of Wisconsin that either 'LMW heparin' or 'unfractionated heparin' can be used, and that these 2 codes must be intended to reflect the result using unfractionated heparin. As a result, the name was modified to better reflect the intended meaning. June 2015 release: Changed U/mL to IU/mL in the Component based on the WHO International Laboratories Biological Reference Preparations List (2015). 'U' represents enzyme units but is often misused for units without specifying what kind.
