description | A questionnaire to assess anxiety disorders, which includes a number of different conditions such as panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, specific phobia, agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). This measure is used to screen an individual for the presence of anxiety disorders and to assess the severity of underlying symptoms. Anxiety disorders are one of the most prevalent psychiatric conditions occurring in about 18 percent of the population (Kessler et al., 2005). Anxiety disorders may be influenced by genetics and environmental factors and commonly occur with other physical conditions such as cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal disease as well other mental illnesses such as depression and substance-abuse disorders (Psychiatric Association, 2000). Furthermore, a significant proportion of pediatric psychiatric patients have anxiety disorders. | ||
