nameEnterovirus and Parechovirus A RNA [Identifier] in Specimen by NAA with probe detection
descriptionEnterovirus and parechovirus are both in the family picornaviridae. Like enterovirus, parechovirus is thought to be a potential cause of acute gastroenteritis in children, as well as severe central nervous system infection in the neonatal period. It may be underdiagnosed without testing. As a result, it has been recommended that, because of common clinical presentations, real time PCR for both viruses should be performed, especially in the case of atypical neonatal seizures. Annals of Neurology. Verboon-Maciolek 2008. Sept 64(3):266-73 Several labs perform this test, including Quest Diagnostics at Nichols Institute: Enterovirus/Parechovirus RNA, Qualitative Real-Time PCR http://www.nicholsinstitute.com/TestDetail.aspx?TestID=2424

Fully-Specified Name

componentEnterovirus & Parechovirus A RNA
propertyPrid  =  Presence or identity:  Prid stands for “Presence or identity”, is used for assays that detect whether or not an analyte of a particular kind is present, and if it is, to identify the specific analyte.
timePt  =  Point in time:  To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.
systemXXX
scaleNom  =  Nominal:  Nominal or categorical responses that do not have a natural ordering. (e.g., names of bacteria, reported as answers, categories of appearance that do not have a natural ordering, such as, yellow, clear, bloody.
