name | Enterovirus and Parechovirus A RNA [Identifier] in Specimen by NAA with probe detection | ||
description | Enterovirus and parechovirus are both in the family picornaviridae. Like enterovirus, parechovirus is thought to be a potential cause of acute gastroenteritis in children, as well as severe central nervous system infection in the neonatal period. It may be underdiagnosed without testing. As a result, it has been recommended that, because of common clinical presentations, real time PCR for both viruses should be performed, especially in the case of atypical neonatal seizures.
