nameWest Nile virus RNA [Presence] in Serum or Plasma from Donor by NAA with probe detection
descriptionA qualitative in vitro nucleic acid screening test for the direct detection of West Nile Virus (WNV) RNA in human plasma. This test screens donor samples for west nile virus RNA in plasma from individual human donors, including donors of whole blood, blood components and other living donors. This test also screens organ and tissue donors when donor samples are obtained while the donor's heart is still beating, and in testing cadaveric (non-heart-beating) donors. Not intended for use on samples of cord blood. Plasma from all donors may be screened as individual specimens. For donations of whole blood and blood components, plasma samples may be tested individually or in pools comprised of not more than six individual samples. For donations from cadaveric (non-heart-beating) organ and tissue donors, samples may only be screened as individual specimens. Not intended for use in the diagnosis of infection with WNV. This term was based on, but not limited in use to, the cobas West Nile Virus RNA assay.

Fully-Specified Name

componentWest Nile Virus RNA
propertyPrThr  =  Present or threshold:  The Property PrThr stands for “Presence or Threshold”, meaning either a) the actual presence or absence of an analyte, or b) that the amount of analyte detected is over some predetermined threshold.
timePt  =  Point in time:  To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.
systemSer/Plas^Donor
    Ser  =  Serum
    Plas  =  Plasma
scaleOrd  =  Ordinal:  Ordered categorical responses, e.g., 1+, 2+, 3+; positive, negative; reactive, indeterminate, nonreactive.

last change typeMIN  - change to field other than name
change reasonThe PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
