descriptionMeconium begins to form in a fetus's gastrointestinal tract by the end of the first trimester of pregnancy. After birth, infants pass meconium stools for the first two to three days of life, at which time they begin to pass breast milk and/or formula stools. Meconium drug testing reflects maternal drug use during at least the last three months of pregnancy, and possibly during the last four to five months.
