description | Angiography is one method for determining the degree of aortic valve regurgitation. The Sellers grading system, originally published in 1964, is based on the opacification of the left ventricle and is still used today. The Sellers grading system is as follows: 1) + = evidence of a jet of regurgitant contrast material without opacification of the left ventricle; 2) ++ = evidence of a regurgitant jet with faint opacification of the left ventricle; 3) +++ = dense opacification of the left ventricle without a distinct visible jet; and 4) ++++ = left ventricle is opacified more densely than the aorta.
