This panel contains terms to capture the type and amount of amino acids consumed by a patient. Amino acids are organic compounds that combine to form proteins. Amino acids and proteins are the building blocks of life, and can be classified into essential amino acids (cannot be made by the body), and nonessential amino acids (can be synthesized within the body or derived in the body from essential amino acids). This term was created for, but not limited in use to, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Nutrition Assessment Language.
