description | This panel contains the qualitative results for the detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) DNA in nasal swabs from patients at risk for nasal colonization. Nasal cultures are the standard way to detect carriers of methicillin-resistant staph for the purpose of keeping them isolated or trying to "sterilize" them. The test targets DNA sequences in the mecA and mecC genes and at the junction of the staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) and the Staphylococcus aureus orfX gene. This panel was created for, but not limited in use to, the Xpert MRSA NxG assay, which is intended to detect MRSA infections in healthcare settings. | ||
