description | This panel contains results for the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and physical findings of gait based on the CDC STEADI assessment.[CDC:steadi/pdf/TUG_Test-print.pdf] The TUG test is a commonly used screening tool to quantify a person's functional mobility and identify those at risk of falling due to balance or gait problems. Individuals are asked to rise from a straight-backed chair without using their arms, walk 10 feet (or three meters), turn around, return to their chair and sit down. The patient is observed and timed during the event. Adults without balance problems can typically perform this test in under 10 seconds whereas adults with mobility difficulty or activities of daily living (ADL) dependence require more than 30 seconds.[PMID: 1991946] Another study suggests 12 seconds as a cut-off value for the TUG to indicate normal versus below normal performance.[PMID: 12720619][CDC:STEADI] | ||||
